(md) A test vehicle of the latest generation will in future be used for heavy goods vehicle inspections and for monitoring commercial passenger and goods traffic.
The test vehicle has comfortable, high-quality equipment and therefore offers the ideal conditions for carrying out demanding checks on goods and passenger transport. This includes, for example, checks on truck drivers' driving and rest periods, checks on the external dimensions and weights of a truck, or compliance with load securing regulations. Joint checks are carried out with customs at least five times a year. The new vehicle will also be used in future for the so-called "Roadpol" operations, which are Europe-wide control campaigns. It could also be used as a mobile command post for large-scale situations and operations for special reasons.
Until now, the traffic service has carried out these checks in the Mercedes Vito or VW Bulli, which are very cramped for these purposes.
The "new one" with its impressive length of 7.20 meters and a height of 3.15 meters has a lot to offer. A few key facts:
- Roof-mounted air conditioning,
- LED ambient lighting,
- Adjustable desks with connections for laptop, telephone system with internet connection,
- A multifunctional device (printer, copier, fax, scanner),
- Power supply for various voltages, optionally via external power supply or batteries,
- Permanent heating,
- Electric step,
- Wheel load scales with compensation mats,
- Telescopic ladders,
- and sufficient storage space for various items of equipment.
At the end of 2021 the long-awaited "reinforcement" for the traffic service of the Paderborn district police authority arrived. Three colleagues took delivery of the vehicle directly from the factory in Kiel.
Head of the authority Christoph Rüther emphasizes: "I am delighted that our traffic service is now equipped with a modern, state-of-the-art vehicle. It offers our employees ideal conditions to ensure the high-quality inspections of goods and passenger traffic in the Paderborn district."
